Recently, the International Symposium on the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Shanghe paleontological fossil site was held in Mianchi.

Mianchi Shanghe paleontological fossil site is located in Shanghe village, Nancun Township, Mianchi County. It is the first discovery of Paleogene strata and Eocene mammal fossil sites in China. It was first discovered by Swedish geologist Andersen in May 1921. Over the past 100 years, through the hard exploration of several generations of experts and scholars in geology and paleontology at home and abroad, fruitful scientific research results have been achieved. The Shanghe site contains a wealth of ancient mammal fossils. The discovery of the fossil of the higher primate aurobius here in 1994 has shaken the theory that the anthropoid ape originated in Africa and pushed the time of the emergence of the anthropoid ape forward by 10 million years. It is internationally recognized as one of the origins of the distant ancestors of mankind.

The conference was hosted by the Institute of Paleovertebrates and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, CO organized by the Henan Provincial Natural Museum and the professional committee of geological history of the Chinese Geological Society, and organized by the Mianchi County Party committee of the Communist Party of China, the people's Government of Mianchi County and the Henan Mianchi workstation of the Institute of Paleovertebrates and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The conference was held in the form of video conference, reviewed and summarized the scientific research achievements in the past 100 years since the discovery of Shanghe paleontological fossil site, and released the latest research results. At the meeting, six experts and scholars from domestic geological and paleontological circles and five paleontologists from the United States, France, Poland, Switzerland and other countries made exchange speeches.
