Masks with air valves cannot be used for epidemic prevention and control

Since winter, some citizens will choose to wear masks with air valves. In this regard, Sanmenxia CDC staff reminded that masks with air valves can not be used for epidemic prevention and control. It is recommended that citizens use disposable medical masks or medical surgical masks.

It is understood that masks with air valves usually refer to industrial anti particulate masks, which can be used for industrial dust prevention and haze protection. This is a respirator with a breathing valve. There is a valve in the breathing valve. The valve closes when inhaling and opens when exhaling. When breathing with this respirator, the exhaled gas is not filtered and can be directly discharged into the surrounding environment.

The respirator with exhalation valve can only be used as one-way protection and can not well cut off the route of transmission. The respirator with air valve worn by suspected patients and confirmed patients will become the source of infection when walking, and the opened exhalation valve may discharge the droplets containing virus from the patient. Therefore, such masks are not recommended.

The use of masks should follow these principles: do not use them blindly and do not over protect them; There is no need to wear a mask in an open place; Cotton gauze mask has no protective effect on preventing virus infection; Patients with basic respiratory diseases need to use protective masks under the guidance of doctors; Very young infants cannot wear masks, which is easy to cause suffocation.

Wear the mask correctly, cover the mouth, nose and chin, and compact the nose clip; When the mask is dirty, deformed, damaged or smelly, it shall be replaced in time; Masks used in cross regional public transport or in hospitals are not recommended to be reused.
