Since the beginning of 2020, facing the unexpected COVID-19 epidemic, the Municipal Party Committee and the local government have led the people of the whole city in fighting against epidemic, overcoming difficulties, and promoting epidemic prevention and control as well as economic and social development. Statistics from the Municipal Bureau of Statistics show that from January to May, the city's resumption of work , production and commercial has made solid progress. Production demand continued to improve. Employment and commodity price were generally stable, and the overall stable economic development trend gradually appeared.

Industrial production has continued to improve. In May, the city's industrial added value increased by 5.9%, achieving positive growth for three months. From January to May, the added value of large scale industries increased by 0.2% , higher than 3.0 and 0.8 percentage in the whole country and Henan province.

Fixed asset investment turned from negative to positive. From January to May, the growth rate of fixed asset investment in Sanmenxia turned from negative to positive, with an annual growth of 1.3%, higher than that of the whole country and Henan province.

Total retail sales of consumer goods achieved positive growth in June.  In May, it reached 4.113 billion yuan, increasing by 2.1% and is 5.0 percentage higher than that in April. From January to May, the city's total retail sales of consumer goods reached 18.081 billion yuan,  decreasing by 14.0% and is 3.8 percentage  lower than that of the previous 4 months.

The decline in financial revenue continued to narrow. From January to May, the city's general public budget revenue reached 5.539 billion yuan, 3.6% lower than that of the previous four months, 5.5 percentage points lower than that of the whole country and Henan province.

The import and export situation was generally stable. From January to May, the total import and export value of the city reached 6.39 billion yuan, increasing by 11.4% and is 5.0 percentage higher than that of Henan province, ranking the second in Henan province. Among them, imports reached 5.28 billion yuan, increasing by 8.4%; Exports reached 1.11 billion yuan, increasing by 28.3% , ranking the fourth in Henan province.

The employment situation was stable on the whole. From January to May, 19,572 new urban jobs were created and 38,000 new jobs (51.5 percent) of the annual growth target was reached . By the end of May, there were 7,460 registered unemployment in the city, and the registered urban unemployment rate was 3.55 percent which is lower than the controlling target of 4.5 percent in Henan Province.

Expenditure on supporting people's well-being was increasing. From January to May, spending on public health, agriculture, forestry, water supply, poverty alleviation, energy conservation,  environmental protection, transport and housing security has increased respectively by 171.1 percent, 33.4 percent, 80.5 percent, 8.7 percent, 53 percent and 131.2 percent.
