According to Yang Linbo, a staff member of the Municipal Meteorological Bureau, the Municipal Meteorological Department seized the favorable situation to carry out artificial precipitation operations throughout the city from June 8th to 9th, effectively alleviating the drought. Due to the continuous high temperature in the early stage, droughts occurred in many parts of our city, which brought about great adverse effects on autumn crops sowing and local tobacco production. Starting at noon on June 8th, the city’ s meteorological department has organized and carried out rainfall operations. Under the combined influence of natural rainfall and artificial rainfall, there was moderate to heavy rain throughout the city, and even heavy rain to rainstorm partially.  The drought has been alleviated. This laid a solid foundation for the smooth sowing of autumn crops and food security.

“The rain on June 15th was affected by cold air, low troughs, and shear lines.” said Lv Zuojun, a staff member of the Municipal Meteorological Observatory. The specific weather conditions are as follows. On June 16, which was Tuesday, it was cloudy along with heavy rain to rainstorm, partially heavy rainstorm. There was gentle northeasterly breeze and the temperature was 19 degrees centigrade to 22 degrees centigrade. On June 17, which was Wednesday, it was cloudy along with heavy rain and local rainstorm. There was light to gentle easterly breeze and the temperature was 17 degrees centigrade to 20 degrees centigrade. On June 18, which was Thursday, it was cloudy to overcast with a light to gentle westerly breeze, and the temperature was 16 degrees centigrade to 25 degrees centigrade. The uneven distribution of heavy precipitation in time and space can easily cause urban waterlogging, road flooding, flooding of small and medium rivers, landslides, mudslides and other geological disasters. It is also accompanied by strong convective weather such as lightning, thunderstorms and gale as well as strong short-term precipitation. The staff of the Municipal Meteorological Observatory reminds the general public that regardless of artificial or natural rainfall, everyone should always pay attention to the weather forecast, add or remove clothing in time, and pay attention to travel safety.
