Sanmenxia Faces the Biggest Flood in 20 Years

On August 20th , the reporter learned from Sanmenxia Water Conservancy Project Bureau that at 10:00 a.m., the flood No.5 on the Yellow River discharged into the Sanmenxia Reservoir at the speed of 6150 cubic meters per second, and the outflow was 5750 cubic meters per second. According to the dispatching instructions of the Yellow River Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, Sanmenxia Reservoir continues to be fully opened for sluicing.
Affected by the rising water level of Weihe River and the water from the upper reaches of the Yellow River, the discharge of Tongguan station on the Yellow River reached 5050 cubic meters per second at 5:06 a.m. on August 18th , forming the No.5 flood of the Yellow River in 2020. At 8:00 a.m. on August 19th , the measured flood discharge at Tongguan Hydrological Station on the Yellow River reached 6110 cubic meters per second and was still rising, which was regarded as the largest flood since 1999. Sanmenxia with more than 190 kilometers of river reach, as the first station of the Yellow River into Henan Province, ushered in the largest flood in nearly 20 years. Sanmenxia Reservoir was opened for operation at 20:00 on August 17th .
According to the requirements of the Yellow River flood control plan, Sanmenxia Water Conservancy Project Bureau, the Municipal Yellow River Affairs Bureau and other relevant departments took immediate action to strengthen the inspection and supervision and strictly implement the system of duty and shift, making every effort to deal with the No. 5 flood.
